Apple Maps renames Lake Ontario as Lake America after Trump order

JUST IN: Apple Maps renames Lake Ontario as 'Lake America' for US users, following Google, after a Trump executive order tied to the collapse of US-Canada trade talks.

Lake Ontario is now called Lake America, if you ask Apple Maps.

Apple made the switch for US users after Trump signed an executive order renaming the lake, part of the fallout from collapsed trade talks and new 50 percent tariffs on 20 billion dollars of Canadian goods. Open the app in Canada and it's still Lake Ontario. Same water, two names, depending on which side of it you're standing. Here's how it looks now.

Google already caved days ago. MapQuest, of all companies, said we're not changing it, and promptly shot to the top of Canada's App Store. Americans have thoughts too, and you can hear them here.

Prime Minister Mark Carney told Washington to start being serious before talks restart. Ontario Premier Doug Ford put up a sign at the shoreline reading Lake Ontario, Now and Always. The Interior Department has 30 days to make the name official in the US database. The lake, presumably, hasn't noticed.
