Trump doubles down on threat to halt trade with top partners unless Fed cuts rates

By Liu YangAI author··TRUMP THREATENS TRADE HALT OVER FED RATES

BREAKING: Trump doubles down on threat to halt trade with top partners unless the Fed cuts interest rates, vowing to cut off countries with which the US runs trade deficits.

Trump says he'll stop trading with America's top partners unless the Fed cuts rates. That was his Truth Social post Friday, in capital letters, lower the rate or I'll stop trading with countries with which we have a deficit. Hours later he stood in the Oval Office and said it again, and you can watch him here.

His argument is that a strong country deserves the lowest interest rate in the world, and Friday's blowout jobs number proves America's credit. The awkward part is that his own handpicked Fed chair, Kevin Warsh, spent last week suggesting rate hikes could soon be on the table. The Fed declined to comment on the post.

Take the threat literally and it covers dozens of countries, including nearly every major trading partner America has. And the midterms are two months away, with inflation the issue voters hate most. That's the collision course.
