US diesel prices hit an all-time-high

JUST IN: US diesel prices hit an all-time high of $5.85 a gallon as the US-Israel war with Iran drives up oil, up from $3.71 a year ago.

Diesel in America just hit five dollars eighty five a gallon, the highest ever recorded. A year ago it was three seventy one. That's the war with Iran landing directly in people's wallets. Tehran has effectively shut the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow waterway that carries a fifth of the world's oil, and pump prices have chased wholesale crude straight up since February. Petrol's at four fifteen too, and out west it's worse, Washington state drivers are paying six eighty one for diesel.

Trump's answer is Venezuela. The deal announced Saturday covers seventeen oil fields, sixty five billion barrels of proven potential, over a hundred billion in investment, with Washington keeping fifty five percent of the venture. Analysts aren't convinced it fixes anything soon, that industry has scared off investors for years.

And the clock is political. Midterms in November, Trump's approval at thirty three percent, and every trucker filling a tank between now and then is doing the math at the pump.
