Two ex-FBI officials charged with allegedly lying about Hunter Biden probe: DOJ

JUST IN: Two former senior FBI officials charged by the DOJ with lying to Congress about their roles in the Hunter Biden investigation, days before the midterm elections.

Two former senior FBI officials are in custody, charged with lying to Congress.

The Justice Department says Nikki Floris and Bradley Benavides surrendered on arrest warrants this morning. Both worked the bureau's Hunter Biden investigations, the tax and money laundering probes that started back in 2019. But in 2023 testimony to the House Judiciary Committee, prosecutors say they denied their roles, and one of them claimed to have learned about the case from Wikipedia. FBI Director Kash Patel says documents and witness accounts contradict their testimony, and U. S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro says both helped shape the public narrative around the laptop story.

Floris's lawyers call the charges nonsense, pointing straight at the calendar. The election is eleven days away, and longstanding DOJ guidance tells prosecutors to avoid exactly this kind of move before a vote. This department filed anyway, one day after it sued Alaska over a Senate race that hasn't even happened yet.
