U.S. oil tops $106 as Saudi Arabia reportedly cancels some crude cargoes after pipeline closure
BREAKING: US oil tops $106 a barrel as Saudi Arabia reportedly cancels some crude cargoes following the closure of its East-West pipeline, hit by a drone attack amid renewed Houthi strikes.
Oil just punched through $106 a barrel. And Saudi Arabia is cancelling cargoes.
West Texas Intermediate jumped five percent Tuesday, Brent hit $109, and you can watch the reason right here, fresh Houthi strikes on Saudi Arabia forcing Riyadh to shut its East West pipeline after a drone attack launched from Iraq. That pipeline can move seven million barrels a day, and the Saudis have been leaning on it to route crude to the Red Sea while the Strait of Hormuz turns into a shooting gallery.
Now trade sources say European customers are being told some September deliveries just aren't coming, and these tankers are sitting there waiting for answers. Energy Secretary Chris Wright says the pipeline restarts in days, calls it brief and temporary. Goldman Sachs is less relaxed, warning Brent above $120 is now a live scenario.
Crude is up twenty percent this month. Whatever brief and temporary means, your fuel bill is already finding out.
