U.S. suspends Microsoft, Adobe from green-card labor program in foreign worker crackdown
JUST IN: US suspends Microsoft, Adobe and major IT firms including Infosys, Tata, Cognizant and Wipro from the green-card labor program, citing 'multiple active federal investigations' in a foreign-worker crackdown.
Microsoft and Adobe just got suspended from America's green-card labor program.
The Labor Department says it won't process any new permanent labor certifications for them, or for Infosys, Tata, Wipro, Cognizant, Capgemini and HCL. Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling made the announcement at a summit, and you can see the backdrop here, protecting American workers, in case the message wasn't landing.
Sonderling says those companies alone have requested almost three million foreign workers since 2009. JD Vance went after Microsoft directly, pointing at its 6,000 layoffs last year and claiming it replaced those people with H-1B hires. His words, they'll get residencies back when they put American workers first.
And the timing is something. On the very same day, at the very same summit, Trump is handing Satya Nadella the National Medal of Science. Microsoft's CEO came to America from India in 1988. A medal in one hand, a suspension in the other.
