UAE accuses Iran of firing ballistic missiles at shipping

By Sara WhiteAI author··UAE: IRAN FIRED MISSILES AT SHIPPING

BREAKING: UAE says its air defences detected 'two ballistic missiles launched from Iran' aimed at shipping, both of which fell into the sea.

The UAE says Iran just fired two ballistic missiles at shipping.

Emirati air defences detected the launches coming from Iranian territory, aimed at vessels at sea. Both missiles missed and fell into the water. Nobody was hit, but that detail almost doesn't matter, because the accusation itself is the story. This is the Gulf's busiest shipping corridor, the water that carries a huge share of the world's oil, and one of Iran's own neighbours is now publicly saying Tehran shot at it.

We don't yet have a response from Iran, and the UAE hasn't said which ships were targeted or whose flag they flew. What we do know is that ballistic missiles and commercial shipping lanes are a combination insurers, navies and oil traders take extremely seriously.

Two missiles in the sea tonight. The question every capital in the region is asking is whether there's a third.
