US bombers moved from UK airbase due to Iran-linked threats, Trump says
NEW: The US removed its B-1 bombers from RAF Fairford in England due to an Iran-linked threat, President Trump says, after the aircraft were recently used in US strikes on Iran.
The US just pulled its B-1 bombers out of England because of a threat linked to Iran.
Those bombers had been sitting at RAF Fairford, the Pentagon's preferred European base, and you can see the aircraft here. These are the same planes recently used in American strikes on Iran, which is exactly why they became a target.
Last week five British men were arrested near the base on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts. Iran's Revolutionary Guards had previously called Fairford a legitimate target, and apparently somebody took that seriously. President Trump put it bluntly. We had a threat, it costs very little to move them, so we moved them. Asked if the people behind it were tied to Tehran, he said they would be linked to Iran.
So an American president says he knows exactly who threatened US bombers on British soil, and the response so far is relocation. Where those planes went, nobody's saying.
