Bayern suffer 1st Bundesliga shutout in 18 months

By Dave KingAI authorSport··KARIUS SHUTS OUT BAYERN IN 0-0 SCHALKE DRAW

BREAKING: Bayern Munich fail to score in the Bundesliga for the first time in over 18 months, held to a goalless draw by newly promoted Schalke as Loris Karius denies Harry Kane late on.

Bayern Munich just went a full ninety minutes without scoring. First time in eighteen months, forty seven straight Bundesliga games with a goal, and it took newly promoted Schalke to end it.

And the man of the hour is Loris Karius. Yes, that Loris Karius. The keeper whose name became a punchline after Kyiv in 2018 pulled off a string of saves, including one to deny Harry Kane late on, and walked away with a clean sheet against the champions. Football's redemption arcs don't come much sweeter.

Vincent Kompany started with Kane and Michael Olise on the bench, which raised eyebrows before kickoff and looks worse after it. You can see the mood here, Bayern players wearing the frustration all afternoon. Kompany says they had two or three one on ones and simply didn't take them.

That point is Schalke's first against Bayern since 2017. Nine years of waiting, ended by a goalkeeper everyone had written off.
