China’s backflipping robot maker Unitree pops 542% in Shanghai debut
BREAKING: Chinese humanoid robot maker Unitree soars 542% on its Shanghai stock market debut, raising about $905 million in its IPO, in one of the biggest first-day pops in recent memory.
A robot that does backflips just jumped 542 percent on its first day of trading.
Unitree Robotics listed in Shanghai this morning and the stock went vertical, raising about 905 million dollars in the IPO and touching 1,100 yuan a share before settling around 968. This is the company whose machines dance and flip their way across the internet, and the crowds turn out for it, you can see the scenes here.
The backers tell you how seriously China takes this. DeepSeek put in about 140 million yuan, Tencent was already on the cap table. And two days before listing, Unitree unveiled a robot called Superman that jumps two metres from a standing start. Subtle naming, I know.
Morgan Stanley now expects fifty thousand Chinese humanoid robots shipped this year, nearly double its old forecast, and a fifteen billion dollar market by 2030. The backflip was the demo. The IPO was the point.
