He put it on Truth Social today, a map with the strait circled, captioned New U. S. Territory, no explanation, no text. And look at the circle, it takes in a chunk of mainland Iran along the northern shore. This is the waterway that carried a fifth of the world's oil before the war started in February.

Iran's deputy foreign minister answered within hours. He said the strait cannot be seized by tweet, nor by aircraft carrier, nor by an election speech. Trump followed up saying there are no talks with Iran, the naval blockade stays in full force, and the mines have been cleared.

Here's what makes tonight heavier than a post. The same day, a merchant ship was hit by an unidentified projectile in Omani waters of that exact strait, engine room damaged, coastguard scrambling to the crew. The map is rhetoric. The water is still a war zone.
