BREAKING: Up to 50 people feared trapped after a five-storey hostel collapses in south-west Delhi, with at least one dead and two critical, rescuers say.

Up to fifty students are feared trapped under a collapsed hostel in Delhi.

The five-storey building came down around half past one this afternoon in Satya Niketan, just outside the Delhi University campus. It was a Sunday, no classes, so most of the students were in their rooms. Rescue teams are working through the rubble right now, and you can see the effort here.

At least one person has died and two more are critical, police say. Six people have been pulled out so far. A local legislator at the scene said some of those trapped have been making phone calls from under the debris. Search crews are combing every layer of it.

Construction work had been going on in the basement. A shopkeeper nearby said the pillars below were weak, and that the workers themselves were buried. Delhi's Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has evacuated the building next door, and police are now searching for the owner.

Fifty students were inside. Six are out.
