Live: Trump's envoys head to Ukraine after 'substantive' talks with Putin

NEW: Trump envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner head to Kyiv after 'substantive' talks with Putin in Moscow on next steps to end the Ukraine war, the White House says.

Three hours behind closed doors with Vladimir Putin, and now Trump's envoys are heading to Kyiv.

Steve Witkoff, the president's business partner, and Jared Kushner, his son-in-law, sat down at the Kremlin on Saturday. The White House says they discussed substantive plans for the next steps to end the war, with announcements promised in the coming weeks. Putin's foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov called the talks constructive, frank and useful, and gave away absolutely nothing beyond that.

One concrete thing did move, though. Both sides agreed to pause strikes on each other's capitals while the talking happens. That's not peace, but it's the first time in a while the skies over Kyiv and Moscow got a scheduled break.

Today it's Volodymyr Zelensky's turn to hear the pitch. The adjectives from Moscow don't matter. What matters is whether those guns stay quiet once the envoys fly home.
