Israel Has Committed Genocidal Acts in Gaza Since Cease-Fire, U.N. Human Rights Panel Says
JUST IN: A UN Human Rights panel says Israel has committed genocidal acts in Gaza since the ceasefire and crimes against humanity in the West Bank. Israel has condemned the report.
A United Nations human rights panel says Israel has committed genocidal acts in Gaza since the ceasefire took effect.
The same panel says Israel has committed crimes against humanity in the occupied West Bank. These are among the gravest accusations available under international law, and they are now attached to conduct that happened after the fighting was supposed to have stopped.
The findings come from Geneva, where the panel operates under the UN human rights system. Israel has condemned the report and rejected its conclusions outright, as it has with previous UN findings on Gaza.
A UN panel finding is not a court verdict. It does not convict anyone. But these reports feed directly into proceedings at international courts, and into the decisions governments make on arms, trade and recognition. The hardest fact tonight is this one. The ceasefire was meant to end the gravest allegations. According to this panel, it did not.
