Lula's comeback bid vs Bolsonaro's son: Brazil votes in high-stakes run-off
NEW: Brazil votes in high-stakes presidential run-off, with incumbent Lula facing Flávio Bolsonaro after the challenger led the first round.
Brazil is voting today, and Lula is behind.
The man who came back from prison to win the presidency now needs a second comeback in one day. His challenger is Flávio Bolsonaro, Jair's eldest son, and he led the first round. You can see Lula here, working a beach rally this week, chasing every last vote like a man who knows the math is against him.
Think about what this run-off actually is. The father was beaten by Lula in 2022 and barred from running. So the family sent the son, and the son outpolled the sitting president. Whatever happens tonight, Bolsonarismo didn't die when Jair left the stage, it just changed its name.
Polls close tonight, and Brazil usually counts fast. By the time most of you wake up, the biggest democracy in Latin America will have picked between a comeback and a dynasty.
