Source: PSG lands WC hero Torres on $58M deal

NEW: Ferran Torres set to join European champions Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona in a deal worth around €50 million ($58M), according to reports.

The man who scored Spain's World Cup winner just cost PSG fifty eight million dollars.

Ferran Torres is leaving Barcelona for Paris, a deal in principle at around fifty million euros, medical in the coming days. And here's the part that stings in Catalonia, Barça didn't push him out. They wanted to extend his contract. He asked to leave, and with one year left on his deal, they took the money. There's a whole debate about whether they should have, and you can watch it here.

He'll link back up with Luis Enrique, his old Spain boss, and slot in as the number nine after Gonçalo Ramos went to Milan. Twenty one goals last season, twenty six years old, arriving as a world champion. That's a tidy piece of business for the European champions.

Barcelona, meanwhile, just lost Lewandowski to Chicago and now Torres to Paris. The Spanish champions start the season without a recognised striker. Somebody in that boardroom is sweating.
