'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' becomes eighth film in history to cross $2 billion at box office
BREAKING: 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' becomes just the eighth film in history to cross $2 billion at the global box office, and is on track to be one of the top-grossing films of all time.
Two billion dollars. Spider-Man just swung past a number only seven films in history have ever touched.
'Brand New Day' is now the eighth member of the most exclusive club at the box office, sitting alongside the Avatars, Titanic and Avengers Endgame. And it's not done, it's still selling tickets, still climbing, on track to end up among the top-grossing films of all time. There he is, the man of the hour, well, the suit of the hour.
Think about what that means for Hollywood. Everyone's been writing obituaries for the superhero movie for three years, audiences are tired, the genre's cooked, we've all heard it. Then a web-slinger walks in and prints two billion dollars like it's 2019 again.
Sony and Marvel just got handed the strongest argument in town, and every studio boss who cancelled a cape movie this year is quietly rereading their spreadsheets.
