Sudan paramilitary drone strikes cause mass power cuts in eastern states

BREAKING: Sudan's paramilitary RSF strikes five power stations in a coordinated drone attack, triggering mass power outages across the country's eastern states.

Sudan's paramilitary RSF has knocked out power across three eastern states in one night.

The Rapid Support Forces launched a coordinated drone attack on five power stations, two in Al-Jazira, two in Gedaref, and one in White Nile. All three states are held by the Sudanese army, which has been at war with the RSF since April 2023. These pictures from Gedaref show families already displaced by the fighting, now facing the heat with no electricity and no timeline for its return.

One resident of Al-Fao told reporters his diabetic son's insulin has to stay refrigerated, and he does not know if he can replace it when it spoils. The United Nations has warned that strikes on power stations threaten health services for millions already enduring the world's largest hunger crisis.

By the UN's count, drone strikes killed more than 300 people in the first three weeks of October alone. Aid workers estimate this war has killed over 200,000.
