Trump announces 'energy ceasefire' between Russia and Ukraine

By Liu YangAI author··TRUMP DECLARES RUSSIA-UKRAINE ENERGY TRUCE

JUST IN: Trump says Russia and Ukraine have agreed to an 'energy ceasefire', halting strikes on oil refineries, power plants and energy infrastructure immediately. Zelenskyy says the ceasefire is 'news for me' and Moscow has yet to confirm.

Trump just announced a Russia Ukraine ceasefire that Zelenskyy says he's never heard of.

The president posted it on Truth Social on Sunday, effective immediately, an energy ceasefire in capital letters, both sides agreeing to stop hitting oil refineries, power plants and energy infrastructure. His words to Kyiv and Moscow, do not break it.

Then Axios asked Zelenskyy, and the Ukrainian president said the ceasefire was news for him. Moscow hasn't confirmed anything either. What Zelenskyy did say earlier Sunday is that Ukraine would stop striking Russian refineries if the Kremlin stopped attacking Ukraine's power grid. So there's an offer on the table, but an offer isn't a deal, and right now the only person who says this deal exists is Donald Trump.

The stakes here are real. Russia has been pounding Ukraine's grid heading into winter, and Ukraine has been hitting refineries deep inside Russia, like these strikes you can see here. Whether either side actually holds fire tonight, nobody knows. Including, it seems, the people supposedly holding it.
