Trump ‘may’ join Saudi strikes on Houthis after Riyadh airport attack
NEW: Trump says the US 'may' join Saudi strikes against Yemen's Houthis following the missile attack on Riyadh airport, which killed 12 and injured more than 300.
Donald Trump says the United States may join Saudi strikes on Yemen's Houthis.
He said it to reporters outside the White House, you can see him here, and the word he used was may. No commitment, no timeline, but an open door to direct American involvement in a war that just reached Riyadh's main airport.
Saudi authorities have now confirmed what that attack cost. Twelve people killed, more than 300 injured, when a missile struck the passenger terminal. It was the third attack on the airport this week, and the first to take lives on this scale.
Trump spoke before those numbers were confirmed. They are confirmed now, and the pressure on Washington to answer has only grown with them. If the US joins those strikes, this stops being a regional war. That is the decision sitting on the president's desk tonight.
