That's Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, on camera Thursday, promising a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz that keeps anything from going in or out of Iranian ports. Here he is. No detail on the measures themselves, just the scale. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth backed him up, saying the Navy can keep the blockade going indefinitely, rotating ships in and out.

And that rotation matters, because the carrier out there now, the USS Abraham Lincoln, has been deployed over 250 days. It was supposed to come home in May. Reports from military families describe food shortages, broken toilets, exhausted sailors. Hegseth calls that completely misrepresented, but a California congressman has now sent a formal letter demanding answers, and the USS George Washington left Vietnam this week to relieve her.

An indefinite blockade needs ships that can stay. Right now, the ship doing the job has been out there nine months past a normal turn.
