Uefa pursuing criminal legal action against Infantino and Fifa

BREAKING: UEFA is pursuing criminal legal proceedings against FIFA and president Gianni Infantino over his now-scrapped plan to sell off stakes in the World Cup to private investors.

European football's governing body is pursuing criminal proceedings in Switzerland against FIFA and its own president, and the BBC has seen the documents. This is the man who runs world football, right here.

The fight is over his plan from July to move the commercial rights to the men's and women's World Cups into a new subsidiary called FIFA Forward Enterprise, and sell stakes to private investors. UEFA's filing says he announced it without consulting the FIFA Council, the confederations, or a single one of the 211 member associations. Their exact words, a plan conceived by Infantino and a small circle of co-conspirators, developed in secret for more than a year.

The plan is already scrapped. The legal action isn't. UEFA has asked Swiss authorities for access to evidence and documents, which means they're not settling for an apology. The two bodies that run world football are now on opposite sides of a criminal case, and Infantino's own filing cabinet is the battleground.
