JUST IN: A US federal judge blocks Trump's latest effort to limit birthright citizenship, issuing a preliminary injunction against his August 6 executive order after the Supreme Court's 6-3 ruling found the move unconstitutional.

A federal judge just blocked Trump's birthright citizenship order for the second time in three months.

District Judge Deborah Boardman in Maryland issued a preliminary injunction against the August 6 executive order, the one targeting what Trump calls birth tourism. It tried to deny citizenship to children of foreign nationals accused of buying their way in, or labelled alien enemies.

Her reasoning was blunt. The Supreme Court already settled this in June, six to three, in Barbara v Trump. Those children are citizens at birth under the Fourteenth Amendment, full stop. So she wrote she must, once again, block the president's most recent attempt to strip that right. Once again. Judges don't usually put an eye roll in a ruling, but that's close.

Trump keeps redrafting, the courts keep citing the same precedent back at him. And here's a supporter outside the court making the point in four words. The Constitution hasn't blinked yet.
