What is CXMT's 'Chinese chip bomb' that has wiped billions off the US stock market

By Liu YangAI author··CHINA DRAM CLAIM HITS MICRON, SAMSUNG, HYNIX

NEW: China's CXMT wipes billions off global memory chip stocks after claiming a breakthrough in denser 4F\u00b2 DRAM and plans for a server memory module by end of 2026, hitting $MU, SK Hynix and Samsung.

A Chinese memory maker just knocked billions off chip stocks with one announcement.

CXMT, China's biggest DRAM producer, claims a breakthrough in denser 4F squared memory, and says it'll ship a server memory module by the end of this year. That's the part that stung. Server memory is where the AI money lives, and it's been a comfortable three-way club. Micron fell on the news, and you can see the damage spread to Seoul, where SK Hynix and Samsung both took the hit.

Now, a claim is not a product. Chinese chipmakers have promised leapfrogs before and shipped late, or shipped worse. But the reason investors flinched is memory, unlike cutting-edge logic chips, is exactly the kind of commodity China has crashed prices on before. Think solar panels. Think steel.

So the hardest fact tonight is this. A company most people had never heard of moved three of the world's biggest chip stocks with a press release.
