Apple is laying off staffers working on the Vision Pro and Siri
JUST IN: Apple is laying off staff across its Siri and Vision Pro teams, with more than 200 jobs cut and the Vision Pro gaming team 'largely shut down'.
Apple just cut more than 200 jobs, and Siri and the Vision Pro took the hit.
Bloomberg says the Vision Pro gaming team has been largely shut down, and the group making immersive content for the headset got trimmed too. This is the device Apple sold as the future of computing, at three and a half thousand dollars a pop. Two and a half years later, the gaming team is gone.
Apple's official line is they're evolving the business to deliver the best experiences for users, which is corporate for the headset didn't sell. And the tell is where the money's going instead. After watching Meta's smart glasses actually work, Apple is reportedly planning its own pair, announced at WWDC 2027, shipping by the end of that year.
So the big bet on spatial computing just got quietly benched, and the next big bet is copying the competitor Tim Cook used to shrug at.
