Daniel Dubois defeats Fabio Wardley to retain WBO heavyweight boxing title
BREAKING: Daniel Dubois retains his WBO heavyweight title with a devastating second-round stoppage of fellow Briton Fabio Wardley at London's O2 Arena, setting up a possible unification clash with IBF champion Filip Hrgovic.
Seventeen seconds. That's how long Fabio Wardley's legs lasted before Daniel Dubois dropped him with a straight right at the O2 Arena last night.
Wardley beat the count, took a battering on the ropes, and got saved by the bell at the end of round one. Round two, no escape. Punch after punch until the towel came in. Dubois keeps the WBO heavyweight title, and this is him celebrating with his team afterwards. It was my time and my era, he said. Bad intentions from the beginning, his words.
Remember, in May Wardley put Dubois down twice early before losing in the eleventh of a bloody war. This time it was a demolition. Wardley drops to twenty wins and two defeats, both to the same man.
And ringside, IBF champion Filip Hrgovic stood up and asked for March, both belts on the line. Dubois says it's his era. Hrgovic is the next man who gets to disagree.
