BREAKING: Far-right Brazilian senator Flávio Bolsonaro has reportedly fled Brazil after losing Sunday's presidential election to Lula, crossing into Argentina and boarding a private flight, with reports he plans to request political asylum in the US.

Flávio Bolsonaro has fled Brazil after losing Sunday's election to Lula.

The far-right senator crossed into Argentina with his wife and two daughters late Tuesday night, over the Tancredo Neves bridge, then boarded a private flight to Guayaquil in Ecuador. Argentina's migration agency confirmed all of it, valid documents, no legal impediment, a plane operated by Baires Fly.

Allies told the news site Metrópoles he's headed for Florida and plans to request political asylum, and that the Trump administration has been informed. So the losing candidate's next stop may be a courtroom in Miami rather than the senate floor in Brasília.

Lula, who turned 81 this week, didn't hold back. He called it shameful, said the family's first homeland is licking the boots of the US, and asked what sits on the conscience of a man who loses an election and flees his country.

A sitting senator, a beaten presidential candidate, asking America for asylum. That's where Brazil wakes up this morning.
