Man City beat 10-man Liverpool 3-0 in first game after guilty verdict
BREAKING: Manchester City silence a hostile Anfield to beat 10-man Liverpool 3-0, with Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki all scoring after Ryan Gravenberch's red card, in City's first game since their guilty verdict.
Manchester City just walked into Anfield, fresh off a guilty verdict, and won 3-0.
First game since an independent commission found them guilty on more than a hundred charges of breaking financial rules, sham deals inflating revenues by over 900 million pounds between 2009 and 2018. Liverpool fans lined the streets chanting cheats, the Kop hung a banner reading a generation of supporters cheated, and City needed a police escort just to get to the ground.
Then the football started and none of it mattered. Ryan Gravenberch got himself sent off on two yellows, and after the break Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki took the hostile crowd apart. You can see how scrappy it got out there. Three points clear at the top under Enzo Maresca, perfect start intact.
But here's the hard part. No sanction has been handed down yet, and a points deduction or even expulsion is still on the table. City are top of a league they might not be allowed to stay in.
