Musk says SpaceX restricted Ukraine's Starlink connection as service restored
BREAKING: Elon Musk says SpaceX restricted Ukraine's Starlink connection, accusing Kyiv of violating terms of service by using the network for offensive drone strikes. Service has since been restored.
Elon Musk now admits SpaceX restricted Ukraine's Starlink connection.
After more than a week of denials, he says the company closed what he called a loophole, accusing Ukraine's military of using the civilian network for offensive drone strikes in violation of its terms of service. Service has since been restored, and this came right after President Trump said he told Musk to put it back, while denying he ever ordered the cut in the first place.
Kyiv says the outage hampered defensive operations for over a week. These pictures show how embedded Starlink is on the battlefield, units depend on it to coordinate in remote areas. A Ukrainian presidential adviser called Musk's post very strange, noting the terminals there have speed limits and don't work on Russian territory, so deep strikes through commercial Starlink aren't physically possible.
One man flipped a switch and a country at war lost part of its communications for a week. That is the story.
