Nepal army races to rescue more than 100 trapped in hydropower tunnel after floods

BREAKING: Nepal's army is racing to rescue more than 100 people trapped inside a hydropower tunnel, three days after devastating floods struck the site, using drilling equipment to reach survivors.

More than a hundred people are still trapped inside a hydropower tunnel in Nepal.

It has been three days since the floods hit the site, and army rescue teams are now drilling through to reach them. You can see the crews working at the tunnel entrance here, helmets on, heavy equipment in, racing against time and against water.

This is one piece of a much larger catastrophe. The floods tore through this Himalayan region days ago, and aerial pictures show what they left behind, whole settlements damaged along the river valley. The Red Cross says around 93,000 people are affected across Nepal and Tibet, and nearly a thousand remain missing. Some survivors were already pulled from this same tunnel earlier this week, which is why crews believe there is still hope inside.

Three days underground, and the drills are still turning. Every hour now counts.
