Police made 1,314 arrests in France's protests
BREAKING: French authorities make more than 1,300 arrests across the country during a second consecutive weekend of mass protests, with at least 50 officers and three protesters injured.
French police made 1,314 arrests in a single weekend of protests.
It is the second weekend in a row that demonstrations have swept across the country, and the numbers tell you how hard the confrontation has become. At least 50 police officers were injured, along with three protesters. Riot units were deployed with tear gas against large crowds, and you can see the scale of it here.
Overnight, fires burned in city squares as crowds refused to disperse. By morning, streets in Paris were left covered in burned debris and graffiti.
Two weekends, more than 1,300 people in custody, and no sign from either side of backing down. The question hanging over France now is whether weekend three looks any different, or worse.
