Saudi Arabia intercepts missiles and drones as fighting with Houthis rages

BREAKING: Saudi-led coalition says it intercepted a drone and missile launched toward Riyadh and 10 missiles targeting its southern region, as fighting with Yemen's Houthis intensifies.

Saudi Arabia says it intercepted a ballistic missile and a drone over Riyadh this morning, plus ten more missiles fired at its southern region.

Coalition spokesman Major General Turki al-Maliki confirmed the interceptions, which included a cruise missile aimed at Khamis Mushait. Explosions were heard across the capital. The timing is the hardest part of this. King Khalid international airport reopened two terminals this weekend, after a Houthi attack on October tenth killed 13 people and wounded more than 300. The Houthis responded by calling the airport a military target and warning airlines and travellers to stay away.

On the other side of the border, Saudi airstrikes hit Houthi-held Sanaa, and you can see the damage here. In Yemen itself, Houthi fighters are advancing on Jabal Sabr, the mountain above Taiz, after cutting the main road to Aden.

A capital under missile fire, an airport the enemy calls a target, and planes taking off anyway. That is where this war stands tonight.
