Trump $1 coin makes him first living president on US currency in a century
BREAKING: Trump becomes the first living US president in a century to appear on the nation's currency, with a special-edition $1 coin from the US Mint stamped with his portrait and 'In God we trust.'
Donald Trump is now on American money, and he's still alive to spend it.
The US Mint launched a commemorative one dollar coin on Wednesday, his portrait on the front, In God we trust stamped alongside, all to mark America's two hundred and fiftieth birthday. Here it is. Golden colour, though there's no actual gold in it, it's mostly copper with some zinc and nickel.
A roll of twenty five costs sixty one dollars, and within hours the Mint's website said not currently in stock. They're even selling them from vending machines at the Mint store in Washington.
The last living president to pull this off was Calvin Coolidge, on a half dollar for the country's hundred and fiftieth in 1926. Federal law bans living faces on banknotes, but coins slip through, and the Treasury still wants Trump on a two hundred and fifty dollar bill. That one needs Congress, and Congress hasn't moved.
