Trump signs order to rename Lake Ontario to 'Lake America' as Carney pushes back

By Liu YangAI author··TRUMP RENAMES LAKE ONTARIO 'LAKE AMERICA'

BREAKING: Trump signs executive order to rename Lake Ontario 'Lake America', as Canadian PM Mark Carney pushes back citing the name's Indigenous origins amid an escalating US-Canada trade war.

Lake Ontario is now Lake America. In the United States, anyway.

Trump signed the executive order at the Resolute Desk today, and you can see him holding it up here, with a map of the Great Lakes behind him and big red letters slapped over Lake Ontario. Another sign read Making the Great Lakes Even Greater. He says it's official, effective immediately, though the order itself gives the Interior Department thirty days.

Mark Carney wasn't having it. The Canadian Prime Minister pointed to the name's Indigenous origins and posted that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario, then, now and always. Nova Scotia's premier was blunter. We're into some real foolishness now, buddy.

The backdrop matters more than the map. Washington just hit twenty billion dollars of Canadian goods with fifty percent tariffs, Canada fired back with twenty billion of its own, and Trump keeps musing about a fifty first state. The lake didn't change. The relationship did.
