UAE intercepts drone after US and Iran exchange attacks

BREAKING: UAE says it intercepted a drone approaching from Iran over its territorial waters, but rejects as 'false' Iranian reports of an attack on its Al Menhad airbase, after the US and Iran exchanged fire.

The UAE says it shot down a drone that came from Iran over its own waters.

Iran's army claims it launched dozens of drones at the Al Menhad airbase early Monday, targeting US forces and helicopters stationed there. Abu Dhabi flatly rejects that. The UAE's Ministry of Defence called the reports false and told people to stop circulating rumours. What it does confirm is one drone, intercepted over territorial waters, approaching from Iran.

This follows the overnight exchange, US strikes on launchers at Larak Island, Iranian retaliation against two American bases in Jordan. The pause President Trump ordered on August 1, at the urging of Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, is effectively over.

UAE presidential adviser Anwar Gargash said targeting the Gulf states and Jordan has proven to be a failure, and called for de-escalation and restoring shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

The countries that brokered the ceasefire are now the ones intercepting drones. That's where this war stands tonight.
