Kharg is Iran's largest crude export terminal, the heart of its oil economy, and you're looking at it here. Threatening it isn't a warning shot, it's a threat aimed at Tehran's wallet.

The backdrop is a war now six months old that keeps finding new rungs on the ladder. Over the weekend, US forces hit Iranian rocket launchers that CENTCOM says were about to sling sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz. Iran answered with missiles and drones on American bases in Jordan. And on Saturday, another tanker was struck by an unknown projectile in the southern lane off Oman.

The Navy is blockading Iranian ports. Iran is still hitting ships. And now the president is publicly targeting the terminal that carries Iran's oil to the world. If Kharg goes, so does any pretence this stays contained.
