U.S. stock futures slip as chances of rate hike rise after Warsh’s Jackson Hole comments
JUST IN: US stock futures slip as odds of a fresh interest-rate hike rise following Kevin Warsh's Jackson Hole comments, with traders now eyeing key labor data and tech earnings this week.
Rate hike talk is back, and stock futures are already flinching.
Kevin Warsh spoke at Jackson Hole, and traders came away pricing higher odds of a fresh interest rate hike. Not a cut. A hike. US futures slipped almost immediately, and you can see the mood on the desks here, screens full of red and everyone recalculating at once.
Warsh is a name markets take seriously, a former Fed governor whose words carry real weight on where policy goes next. When he leans hawkish from that stage in Wyoming, money listens, and right now money doesn't like what it heard.
The timing makes it worse. This week brings key labor data and a run of big tech earnings, so every number that lands will be read through one question, does the Fed tighten again. Futures just gave you their first answer, and it wasn't a friendly one.
