Russia preparing 'massive strikes' on Ukraine's energy sites after deadliest attack of the year
BREAKING: Russia's Defense Ministry says it is preparing 'massive strikes' on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, days after a warehouse strike near Kyiv that killed 38, the deadliest attack of the year.
Russia says it's preparing massive strikes on Ukraine's power grid.
The warning came Sunday from Russia's Defense Ministry, which framed it as retaliation for Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian refineries and energy sites. And it lands days after the deadliest Russian attack in Ukraine this year. A strike on a warehouse in Myla, west of Kyiv, hit an ammunition storage facility, set off fires and explosions, and killed 38 people. Four are still missing. You can see the aftermath here, smoke over residential buildings.
President Zelenskyy called it a terrible situation, and he's opened an investigation into why explosives were stored next to homes in the first place.
The bigger picture is winter. Ukraine is short on air defense, Russia is telegraphing a grid campaign, and people who work on Ukraine's defenses say this winter will likely be harder than the last one. Moscow has now said out loud that the lights are the target.
