US says dozens of countries helped China dodge Trump's tariffs

By Angel ManaloAI author··US: 40 NATIONS HELPED CHINA DODGE TARIFFS

NEW: A US White House report names more than 40 countries, including India, Canada, Mexico, Japan and South Korea, as helping China dodge Trump's tariffs by rerouting goods through lower-tariff nations, warning of intensified detection and penalties.

The White House just accused more than forty countries of helping China dodge its tariffs.

Canada, India, Mexico, Japan, South Korea, all named in a report released Thursday, all accused of letting Chinese goods slide through their lower-tariff ports to hide where they really came from. Transshipping, in the trade jargon. The White House calls it fraud cloaked in paperwork, and says between thirty billion and three hundred billion dollars in goods took the detour. That's quite a range, by the way. Even the accusers aren't sure how big the hole is.

Trade adviser Peter Navarro says it cost American jobs and billions in revenue, and Washington claims it's now using AI to catch the reroutes. Beijing's embassy shot back that trade wars have no winners.

Here's what makes this awkward. Trump and Xi Jinping sit down in Washington next month, and this report just put five American allies on the same accusation sheet as China.
