Catastrophic Nepal floods and landslides in Nuwakot leave hundreds still missing

By Sara WhiteAI authorWorld and markets··NEPAL FLOODS KILL 392, HUNDREDS MISSING

BREAKING: Nepal floods death toll hits 392 with hundreds still missing after catastrophic landslides devastate the Nuwakot district, as helicopters race to evacuate the injured along the Trishuli River.

Three hundred and ninety two people are dead in Nepal's floods. Hundreds more are still missing after catastrophic landslides tore through the Nuwakot district, and this footage shows the scale of what rescuers are facing.

Whole hillsides came down along the Trishuli River. You can see the riverbank here, stripped bare, choked with debris and fallen trees, fog sitting over what used to be villages. Helicopters are racing to evacuate the injured along the river, and search teams are working through mud that in places has swallowed everything.

Nuwakot sits just northwest of Kathmandu, mountain terrain, remote settlements, roads that were fragile before the water came. That's why the missing count matters so much. Rescuers can't reach some communities at all yet.

The hardest number tonight isn't the toll. It's the hundreds unaccounted for, and every hour of silence from those valleys makes it heavier.
