JUST IN: Nigel Farage wins the Clacton by-election to return to UK parliament, weeks after resigning his seat over an investigation into his finances.

Nigel Farage just won his own seat back.

He resigned from parliament only weeks ago, over an investigation into his finances, and the voters of Clacton have now sent him straight back to Westminster. And there he is, bright blue suit, waving outside the count like a man who never left.

Think about the sequence for a second. Quit the seat, trigger the by-election, stand in it yourself, win it. That is the political equivalent of handing in your notice, applying for your own job, and getting it.

The finance investigation has not gone anywhere, by the way. Whatever it finds, it now finds a sitting MP with a fresh mandate, delivered by the same voters who watched him walk out the door. Clacton looked at all of that and said yes, again.
