Ronaldo suspended by Portugal FA after walkout
BREAKING: Cristiano Ronaldo provisionally suspended by the Portuguese Football Federation after walking out of the national team camp following a dispute with head coach Jorge Jesus.
Cristiano Ronaldo has been suspended by his own country.
The Portuguese Football Federation opened disciplinary proceedings against him after he walked out of the national team camp before the Nations League game with Denmark. The row was with head coach Jorge Jesus, who left Ronaldo on the bench against Norway. Ronaldo says promises about playing time were broken, so he packed up and left.
Then came the apology. He told his teammates and the fans he shouldn't have gone, and actually asked the federation to punish him. They obliged. Provisional suspension first, a further one on top, and the case is marked urgent. Everything else stays confidential until the investigation wraps.
He's 41, he says he still wants to play for Portugal, and the World Cup is next summer. A man who's never missed a big stage might have just talked himself off this one. Whatever the commission decides, it decides the ending.
