JUST IN: Stellantis reports a 4 billion euro ($4.5 billion) cash shortfall in the third quarter as its turnaround plan continues. Revenue rose 1% and adjusted operating income jumped 184%, sending shares up roughly 6%.

Stellantis burned through 4 billion euros of cash last quarter, and the shares went up 6 percent.

Welcome to automotive earnings in 2026, where losing 4.5 billion dollars counts as good news because last year you lost 4.3 billion and everyone expected worse. Revenue nudged up 1 percent to 37.6 billion euros, and adjusted operating income jumped 184 percent, which sounds heroic until you notice it went from 90 million to 256 million. Small numbers, big percentages.

CEO Antonio Filosa is two quarters into a 70 billion dollar turnaround, and he's just been on camera arguing Europe needs to protect carmakers who actually build here. Most of that cash is headed to North America, where Jeep and Chrysler have been bleeding for years, while Chinese brands eat everyone's lunch at home.

The real test is the promise Filosa reconfirmed today. Positive free cash flow next year. That's the number the whole turnaround lives or dies on.
