That's not a rumour, it comes from Airbus itself. The manufacturer's own analysis found the jet temporarily lost some of its primary flight controls while airborne, and this is the aircraft in question, an A320 with the registration VT-CIH.

Understand what that means for a moment. The A320 is a fly-by-wire plane, the pilots' inputs go through computers to move the surfaces. When part of that chain drops out, even briefly, the crew is flying a very different aircraft until it comes back. This one came back, and the plane landed.

Airbus will now be working with Air India and India's regulator to find out why it happened, and whether it can happen again. Because with over ten thousand A320 family jets flying, an answer of we don't know is not an answer anyone can live with.
