Indonesia rocked by 3 major quakes and over 230 aftershocks in 24 hours
BREAKING: Indonesia rocked by three major earthquakes and more than 230 aftershocks in 24 hours.
Three major earthquakes have hit Indonesia in twenty four hours. Three. And more than two hundred and thirty aftershocks behind them.
We covered the first big quake earlier, a magnitude 7.7, and the ground simply has not stopped moving since. Indonesia sits on the Ring of Fire, where the plates grind against each other, and right now that fault system is releasing energy at a pace that gives seismologists no room to breathe.
The country's geophysics agency, BMKG, is the one tracking every one of those aftershocks, and each new tremor hits buildings that are already weakened and people who are already sleeping outside. President Prabowo Subianto's government now faces a disaster that keeps rewriting itself hour by hour.
Two hundred and thirty aftershocks in a single day. In Indonesia tonight, the ground is still not done.
