SpaceX officially closes its Cursor acquisition

JUST IN: SpaceX has officially closed its acquisition of AI coding startup Cursor.

A rocket company just bought a coding app for sixty billion dollars.

SpaceX has officially closed its acquisition of Cursor, the AI coding startup, and yes, that price tag is real. This is Elon Musk's world now, the same SpaceX that swallowed his own xAI earlier this year and then went public. The Cursor deal was set up back in April with a sixty billion dollar option attached, and today it's done.

Why would a rocket maker want a code editor? Compute. SpaceX has been quietly renting out its computing infrastructure to Anthropic and even Google, and Cursor says it now gets access to the largest fleet of GPUs on the planet. Their words, SpaceX is building capacity to scale intelligence far beyond what exists today.

One footnote though. SpaceX is being sued over pollution from the gas turbines powering those data centers. The world's biggest GPU fleet runs on something, and the neighbours have noticed.
