Putin relayed Iran war proposal to Trump, Kremlin says
JUST IN: The Kremlin says Putin relayed Iran's proposal to end the war to Trump in a phone call, in agreement with Iranian President Pezeshkian, a day after the two leaders agreed a Russian diesel deal.
Vladimir Putin just became the messenger between Iran and the White House.
The Kremlin says Putin relayed Tehran's proposal to end the war to Trump in a phone call, and he did it in agreement with Iranian President Pezeshkian, right after the two met at a summit in Turkmenistan. What's actually in the proposal, Moscow isn't saying. The White House hasn't confirmed the call either.
The timing is doing a lot of work here. One day earlier, Trump announced Russia will supply more than four million tons of diesel to global markets, and the Treasury waived sanctions on Russian diesel through April 2027. Zelensky called that a gift to Putin that buys more war, not less.
So in forty eight hours, Putin went from sanctioned pariah to fuel supplier and peace broker. Whatever Iran's proposal says, the man delivering it just got paid before the envelope was opened.
